Facts About the Lake in the Lake Norman Area

• Lake Norman is a man-made lake created in the 1960's by Duke Power. The purpose behind creating the lake was to use it as a source to generate electricity and provide cooling water for coal and nuclear steam stations.

• Lake Norman has three power plants- McGuire Nuclear Station, Marshall Steam Station and Cowans Ford

• It is the states largest man-made lake and covers 32,510 acres with a shoreline extending over 520 miles across four counties (Mecklenburg, Catawba, Iredell and Lincoln)
